A presentation of self in everyday society
The images in this series were styled and directed by beeziflybynyt, an audio-visual artist. They aim to reflect a modern young black creative who promotes self-love and awareness in the black community through fashion photography. The series draws inspiration from Wisley Snippes in the 90s in NEW JACK CITY and the history of black people, using style as a means of visual communication during times of oppression. The focus is on advocating for pride in black identity and wearing black to symbolize benevolence, boldness, and bravery. Style has historically played a significant role in black communities, fostering hope, a sense of belonging, and identity.
We find solace and self-expression through our custom clothing as a way to cope with difficult experiences and backgrounds. Looking good helps us forget our sorrows and feel more secure.
